IRS Publishes 2026 Inflation Adjustment Factor for Renewable Electricity Production Credit
The Internal Revenue Service released the inflation adjustment factor for the renewable electricity production credit under IRC section 45. For 2026, the factor is 2.0570, while the reference price for wind energy stands at 3.17 cents per kilowatt hour. The credit remains available for electricity from multiple sources, including wind, biomass, geothermal, solar, municipal solid waste, hydropower, and marine energy. Amendments from the Inflation Reduction Act impact the credit calculations for facilities placed in service after December 31, 2021—including bonus credits for domestic content and energy community compliance. Specific rates apply depending on the facility’s placement date and resource type, ranging from 3.1 cents to 0.3 cents per kilowatt hour.

NRC Issues Draft Guidance on Onsite Emergency Alternating Current Power Sources
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is requesting public comment on draft regulatory guide DG-1477, concerning application and testing of onsite emergency AC power sources in production and utilization facilities. Revision 5 updates guidance for compliance with NRC regulations, referencing new IEC/IEEE standards for diesel and combustion turbine generator units. Comments are due by July 2, 2026. Operators are advised to review the new standards and procedures as the guide is intended to reflect industry experience, operational lessons, and recent reviews.

White House Executive Order on AI Innovation and Cybersecurity for Critical Infrastructure
President Trump signed an Executive Order to advance American artificial intelligence innovation and cybersecurity. The Order directs federal agencies to prioritize cyber defense of national security systems and critical infrastructure—including utilities—and creates an AI cybersecurity clearinghouse. New funding opportunities for advanced AI and expanded federal hiring pathways are established. The Order prohibits mandatory licensing or pre-clearance for AI and announces measures to enforce against criminal misuse. Prior actions noted include repeals of previous policies, an AI Action Plan, and a legislative framework for AI.

FERC Combined Notices: Electric Corporate Transactions, Rate Filings, and Compliance Activities
FERC published a series of notices regarding electric corporate applications, rate filings, and compliance amendments.
