Commission releases common equality indicators under Gender Equality Bodies Directive

On 11 June, the European Commission adopted Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1197, establishing a list of common indicators on the functioning of equality bodies, in line with Directive (EU) 2024/1500. The regulation sets out qualitative and quantitative indicators covering resources, independence, accessibility, and effectiveness, to enable standardised national data collection. This information will serve as the basis for the Commission’s reporting under Article 18(3) of the directive. The indicators were drafted in cooperation with the Expert Group on Implementation of EU Equality Law and relevant EU agencies. The regulation will enter into force twenty days after publication in the Official Journal.

Commission adopts indicators for equality bodies under Racial, Ethnic, and Other Grounds Directive

The Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1196, enacted on 11 June, establishes a harmonised set of indicators for equality bodies operating under Council Directive (EU) 2024/1499. The measure aims to align operational assessment and reporting on resources, mandates, and powers of bodies focused on equal treatment irrespective of racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age, or sexual orientation. The indicators facilitate consistent data gathering and comparability across Member States. The European Data Protection Supervisor provided an opinion prior to adoption, ensuring compliance with data protection standards.

Council Decision updates EEA cooperation protocol for social security

Council Decision (EU) 2026/1322 of 4 June 2026 formalizes the EU’s negotiating stance within the EEA Joint Committee on an amendment to Protocol 31 of the EEA Agreement. The amendment continues cooperation on free movement of workers and social security coordination, and maintains the scope of Budget Line 07 20 03 01. The measure was deemed necessary to cover ongoing collaboration in these specific fields outside the four freedoms.

Pay Transparency Directive: Committee chairs address missed transposition deadline

On 8 June, Li Andersson (EMPL) and Lina Gálvez (FEMM) commented on the missed transposition deadline for the Pay Transparency Directive, highlighting that most Member States had not enacted the required national laws by 7 June 2026. The directive, adopted in April 2023, introduces binding pay transparency measures to address the EU gender pay gap, which stood at 11.1% in 2024 according to Commission data.

Parliament delegation attends UN disability rights conference

A parliamentary delegation, led by Li Andersson (The Left, FI), Chair of the Employment and Social Affairs Committee, and including MEPs from EMPL, LIBE, and PETI, participated in the 19th session of the UN CRPD's Conference of States Parties from 9 to 11 June. Delegates engaged in meetings and side events addressing political participation and inclusive care for persons with disabilities, marking the convention’s 20th anniversary.
