Commission approves Kimberly-Clark's acquisition of Kenvue, subject to conditions
On 12 October 2026, the European Commission approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the proposed acquisition of Kenvue Inc by Kimberly-Clark Corporation. The approval is conditional on Kimberly-Clark's commitment to divest all its feminine hygiene brands in the EEA, notably Kotex, Camelia, and Record, to address competition concerns in tampon markets in Czechia, Estonia, and Slovakia. Dilek Gıda Üretim ve Pazarlama Ticaret A.Ş. was approved as the purchaser of the divested business after a review of its business plan and financial capacity. The transaction was notified on 25 August 2026, and the Commission concluded that the commitments fully address horizontal overlap, ensuring continued competition. An independent trustee will monitor compliance with the commitments.

Commission sets out new strategy on combating trafficking in human beings
On 15 October 2026, the European Commission published a new strategy to combat trafficking in human beings, noting that over 20,000 victims were registered in 2023-2024. The strategy targets six priorities, including technology use, business cooperation, disruption of organised crime, migration-related risks, crisis preparedness, and victim protection. The approach builds on the Digital Services Act, the revised Anti-Trafficking Directive (entered into force in 2024), and the new sanctions regime proposed in July 2026. The Commission plans to establish a European business coalition against trafficking and enhance cross-border cooperation through EMPACT and Europol. The strategy will be discussed by the European Parliament and Council.
Job quality is a priority in the EU, according to annual Commission report
The 2026 European Employment and Social Outlook, released on 12 October 2026, reports continued improvement in job quality across the EU, especially in pay, job security, and working time. The document links better job quality to higher productivity and lower staff turnover. The report notes persistent labour shortages in lower-quality jobs and highlights sectoral differences, with accommodation and food services facing more challenges. AI and technology are identified as key factors transforming work, with the forthcoming Quality Jobs Act expected later this year. The report states that the EU labour market remains resilient, with the employment rate at 76.1% in 2025 and unemployment at 6%.
Eurobarometer survey highlights growing use of AI in European companies
