Federal Budget 2026 invests $165 million in college-led applied research through the CCI Program
On May 7, 2026, Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry, met with Centennial College students and researchers in Scarborough to announce $165 million for applied research delivered through the College and Community Innovation (CCI) program, as part of Budget 2025 and the Spring Economic Update 2026. Canada advances plans to spin off NRC’s Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre as a commercial entity

New regulations strengthen oversight of immigration and citizenship consultants
On May 6, 2026, Minister of Immigration Lena Metlege Diab announced new regulations tightening the oversight of immigration and citizenship consultants in Canada. The rules, effective July 15, 2026, enhance the complaints and disciplinary framework at the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants, increase transparency by updating the College’s public register, and add new reporting mandates.
