President Trump Announces Historic Defense Investment from NATO Allies at Ankara Summit

At the 2026 NATO Ankara Summit, President Trump announced $3 billion in new deals and joint ventures involving U.S. defense manufacturers and European partners. Lockheed Martin will establish a PAC-3 Missile Sustainment Facility in Europe, Northrop Grumman expands NATO’s surveillance programs, and Raytheon, Boeing, and Anduril will boost missile and bomb production through European partnerships. NATO procurement coalitions are intended to lower costs and facilitate market entry for small and medium-sized U.S. firms. Allies committed to spending 5% of GDP on defense by 2035, resulting in a $1.21 trillion increase in defense spending since Trump's previous term. European allies are taking greater responsibility for regional defense, including support for Ukraine with over $5 billion in U.S. equipment.

Presidential Proclamation on Commercial Aircraft Imports

The President issued a proclamation based on a Commerce Department Section 232 report, concluding that imports of commercial aircraft, jet engines, and parts threaten U.S. national security. Risks identified include foreign trade practices, reliance on external supply chains, counterfeit parts, workforce attrition, and rising production costs. The proclamation directs the Secretary of Commerce and Trade Representative to negotiate remedies with foreign partners and requires a progress report within 180 days. The President retains authority to impose tariffs if negotiations do not resolve these threats.

OFAC Sanctions Actions Against Individuals and Entities Linked to Illicit Trade and Terrorism

On June 30, 2026, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) placed several persons, including individuals and entities in Mexico and the United Kingdom, on the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List under Executive Orders 14059 and 13224. Those named are now subject to asset freezes and transaction prohibitions for connections to the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion and related logistics and financial companies. OFAC’s actions block the property and interests in property subject to U.S. jurisdiction for companies such as Centro Cambiario La Peseta, Cucumber Sweet Waves Ltd, and others.

International Information Collection Initiatives by Federal Aviation Administration

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a notice seeking comment on the renewal of information collection regarding its international role. The initiative aligns with statutory requirements under 49 U.S.C. 40104, focusing on technical assistance and collaboration with foreign counterparts and organizations such as ICAO. The agency gathers data from approximately 195 entities, aiming to identify opportunities and address risks for the U.S. aerospace sector. The comment window runs through September 8, 2026.

International Trade Commission Solicits Public Input on Mobile Device Exclusion Order

The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) issued a request for submissions on public interest issues concerning a recommended limited exclusion order related to certain mobile electronic devices by Samsung. The presiding Administrative Law Judge’s Initial Determination on Section 337 Violation and Recommended Determination on remedy and bonding prompt interested parties to comment by August 6, 2026. Affected areas include consumer impact, competitive conditions, and public health concerns.
