Commission disburses €3.3 billion in defence funding to Ukraine under Ukraine Support Loan

On 17 September 2026, the European Commission disbursed €3.3 billion to Ukraine for defence procurement, including drones and missiles, under the €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan. This payment is the fourth made through the defence window in 2026, bringing total EU support to Ukraine this year to nearly €15 billion. Regulation (EU) 2026/467, adopted in February 2026, provides the legal framework for these loans, with €60 billion allocated to defence and €30 billion to budgetary aid across 2026–2027. President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed further funds would be mobilised, drawing on the Security Action for Europe instrument, to develop a joint EU-Ukraine air and missile defence system, leveraging Ukraine's battlefield experience and European industrial capacity. The Commission's decision on 11 September 2026 approved €6.1 billion for Ukraine’s air and missile defence needs, including PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems. All funding is subject to monitoring and conditions, with future payments aligned to Ukraine's evolving needs.
