- Environment and Sustainable Development Committee—Protecting Residents from Extreme Weather Events: Scheduled for June 2 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the committee will deliberate in camera on a draft report concerning protective measures against extreme weather.

Federal Government Backs Maritime Coastal Trails Restoration
On May 29, 2026, the Government of Canada committed $200,000 to the Nature Conservancy of Canada for the Maritime Coastal Trails project at sites in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Enhancements include rock swale installation to manage stormwater at Brier Island, Gaff Point, Prospect trails, and Musquash Estuary Nature Reserve Trail. Spring Economic Update Allocates $957.8 Million to Small Craft Harbours Program
On May 30, 2026, Minister Heath MacDonald visited French River Harbour, PEI, highlighting a proposed federal commitment of $957.8 million over five years beginning in 2026-27 to the Small Craft Harbours Program. StatsCan Reports Continued Job Growth in Environmental and Clean Technology Sector
Statistics Canada’s Human Resource Module on May 29, 2026 reported 363,094 Canadian jobs generated by environmental and clean technology activities in 2024, representing a 22.4% increase from 2020. ECT job growth has outpaced that of the wider economy, maintaining a 1.7% share of national employment. This marks four consecutive years of sector job gains.
