Draft Federal–Quebec Agreement Proposes Unified Environmental Assessment for Major Projects

On July 20, the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada published a draft agreement with the Government of Quebec introducing a 'one project, one review' approach for major projects in Quebec. AgriStability Penalty Waivers Offered to Flood-Affected Manitoba Producers

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, in partnership with Manitoba, is waiving 2025 AgriStability late application penalties for producers in 55 municipalities and First Nation communities that declared a state of emergency following flooding incidents in June and July 2026. Producers who missed the June 30 application deadline are eligible under this measure, which aims to provide immediate financial relief and streamline access to program benefits for the impacted regions. The waiver covers both rural municipalities and Indigenous communities, with affected producers able to apply without penalty for support related to business interruptions and crop losses. Green Shipping Corridor Memorandum of Understanding Formalized with Spain

On July 23, Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Transport, formalized a Memorandum of Understanding with Spain supporting the development of multi-port Green Shipping Corridors, a move adding Spain as the third participant in the Atlantic corridor after Germany. FedNor Invests in Montreal River Hydroelectric Project

On July 23, the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario announced a $90,360 FedNor investment to facilitate hydroelectric turbine installation at the Latchford Dam along Highway 11. Fisheries and Oceans Canada Completes Inspection Blitz Targeting Aquatic Invasive Species

Fisheries and Oceans Canada, partnering with Manitoba, conducted its second aquatic invasive species roadside inspection blitz from June 19 to 21, 2026, at Highway 1 near the Manitoba-Ontario border. Over three days, officials stopped and inspected 455 vehicles, examining a total of 502 watercraft and related equipment. Of those, 382 were compliant with 'clean, drain, dry' requirements, while 120 failed inspection and 13 required decontamination. One watercraft displayed visible Zebra Mussels. The operation contributes to ongoing federal efforts to counter the spread of invasive organisms threatening freshwater ecosystems, infrastructure, and local economies. Maritime Provinces Sign Memorandum on Electricity Grid Integration

Federal Investment for Wastewater Infrastructure in Green Hill, Nova Scotia
