Commission disburses €3.3 billion to Ukraine for missiles and drones
On 17 September 2026, the European Commission disbursed €3.3 billion to Ukraine for defence procurement under the €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan, targeting drones and missiles. President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed the payment as the fourth under the loan's defence window, raising this year's total EU support to nearly €15 billion. The loan includes €30 billion for budgetary aid and €60 billion for defence across 2026-2027. The Commission is also preparing a new joint EU-Ukraine programme for developing a European air and missile defence system, building on the Freya anti-ballistic system. This follows the Commission's 11 September approval of €6.1 billion for Ukraine's air and missile defence needs, including PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems. All payments follow Regulation (EU) 2026/467 and are subject to agreed conditions and monitoring.
