Significant Funding for Quebec Dairy Processing—Agrilait Receives $2.5M

On August 13, Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions announced a repayable contribution of $2.5 million supporting Agrilait s.e.c., owner of Fromagerie St-Guillaume in Saint-Guillaume, Quebec. The funding, revealed by Carlos Leitão, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry, will permit installation of new production and wastewater treatment equipment, aiming to increase productivity and capacity. Agrilait manufactures a variety of cheeses and dairy ingredients and is owned by the Agiska cooperative and a group of dairy farmers. The investment targets modernization, operational sustainability, enhanced water management, and waste recovery. The initiative is part of CED’s Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program, which aids manufacturing SMEs and regional economic stakeholders to foster competitiveness and innovation.

Expansion Funding for Canadian Food Can Manufacturing—Ideal Can Secures $1.5M

Ideal Can, the largest automated steel can manufacturer for agri-food processors in Canada, obtained a repayable contribution of $1.5 million from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions on August 14. Announced by the Honourable Mélanie Joly and Carlos Leitão, the funding will add a new manufacturing line, boosting local production capacity of steel cans and enhancing the domestic food supply chain. Established in 2020 and relying exclusively on Canadian steel, Ideal Can meets demand from processors aiming to reduce reliance on imports. The support is aligned with CED’s Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program and responds to expanding supply chain needs in the food industry.

Modern Science Infrastructure Advances—Major Investment at CFIA Ottawa Laboratory

Public Services and Procurement Canada has awarded PCL Construction Canada Inc. a $768.6-million contract to build the Regulatory and Security Science Main (RSS Main) campus in Ottawa. Announced August 12 by Minister David J. McGuinty, the new facilities will provide advanced laboratories and digital systems supporting CFIA, Health Canada, PHAC, and Canada Border Services Agency. The RSS Main aims to strengthen Canada’s food supply, bolster public and animal health, and reinforce emergency and border preparedness. This project leverages Canadian expertise and material sourcing and incorporates Indigenous participation plans for meaningful business opportunities.

Municipal Climate Resilience Projects—$34.2M Distributed Nationwide

Environment and Climate Change Canada, with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, announced $34.2 million in funding on August 12 for 141 municipal adaptation projects under the Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation initiative. Targeted efforts include asset management, adaptation planning, risk assessments and program design. Individual projects span regions and include investments such as Kanesatake Lands (Quebec) implementing flood reduction solutions, Port Coquitlam (BC) advancing flood-resilient infrastructure, and Waterloo (ON) mitigating heat risks for residents. Funding aligns with the government's Adaptation Action Plan and National Adaptation Strategy and aims to support municipal infrastructure improvements, risk mitigation, and planning for extreme events.

Farm Product Prices for June 2026 Released by Statistics Canada

Statistics Canada published provincial price data for a range of farm products as of June 2026, including grains, oilseeds, specialty crops, cattle, hogs, poultry, eggs, and dairy products.
