Competition Bureau Finalizes Agreement to Safeguard Grain Market Competition in Saskatchewan

On May 22, 2026, the Competition Bureau announced an agreement with Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited (P & H) addressing competition concerns over its proposed acquisition of GrainsConnect Canada Operations Inc. The Bureau determined the transaction would decrease competition among buyers of wheat from farmers in the Reford, Saskatchewan area, given both companies operate grain elevators regionally. To resolve the Bureau’s findings, P & H will divest GrainsConnect’s grain elevator business in Reford to a purchaser approved by the Commissioner of Competition. The assets must continue normal operation until sale completion. This measure is anticipated to uphold competition among grain buyers for local farmers and maintain market access for agricultural producers.
