Ontario Moves Forward with 'One Project, One Process' Mining Legislation
Ontario introduced the Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, aiming to cut government review times for advanced exploration and mine development by at least 50%. Minister of Energy and Mines Stephen Lecce stated in Sudbury that the legislation will create a new integrated permitting framework for mining projects, coordinated by a dedicated team. The model consolidates approvals and introduces performance metrics and binding service standards. If passed, 12 critical mineral and gold projects will be able to access the new process immediately, potentially accelerating Northern Ontario’s mining sector.

Alberta Invests $3 Million in Hydrogen Production from Forestry Waste
Alberta allocated $3 million from the TIER fund to support Hydrogen Naturally’s feasibility study for turning forestry waste into hydrogen. The new technology aims to use gasification of woodchips and sawdust, with carbon captured and stored underground. The project, supported by Emissions Reduction Alberta, is intended to provide regulatory, engineering, and environmental information for building a hydrogen production unit. Officials including Dale Nally and Rebecca Schulz stated the investment is positioned to drive job creation and attract further investment in Alberta’s hydrogen and forestry sectors.
