Canada Launches Canadian Genomics Strategy
On February 6, 2025, Yasir Naqvi, representing the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, announced a $175.1 million investment over seven years into the Canadian Genomics Strategy. This initiative aims to enhance Canada's leadership in genomics research with a focus on health, agriculture, and clean technology. The strategy is expected to improve crop resilience and livestock health, thereby supporting food security and driving innovations in biofuels and bioremediation.

Canada Responds to U.S. Tariffs
On February 2nd, Canada introduced a 25% tariff on $30 billion worth of U.S. goods in response to unjustified tariffs on Canadian products, effective February 4, 2025. The list includes various consumer goods, with plans to extend tariffs on additional items worth $125 billion. A remission process will allow Canadian businesses to apply for relief from these countermeasures.
A day after these announcements, Canada and the United States agreed to delay the imposition of our respective tariffs on imported goods.
