Canada invests in national geothermal energy roadmap
On June 11, Natural Resources Canada announced $468,000 through the Energy Innovation Program toward the country’s first national roadmap for deep geothermal energy resources. The roadmap—developed by the Canadian Deep Geothermal Coalition with coordination from the Cascade Institute—will identify technology opportunities and research and development priorities for next-generation geothermal development. Project teams will engage industry, researchers, Indigenous partners, and government stakeholders to support increased geothermal energy use for both heat and power supply, aiming to provide stable long-term energy costs and improved security. The initiative signals plans to leverage Canadian strengths in drilling and subsurface engineering to extend geothermal systems into more regions. The roadmap’s conclusions are positioned to enable further investment and expansion within the sector, with the stated aim of supporting job growth and energy security.

Federal investment launched for Executive Nuclear Energy Management School
Prairies Economic Development Canada announced $50,000 in support for the first Canadian Executive Nuclear Energy Management School, delivered by the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Engineering in partnership with the IAEA. The funding supports executive, senior, and mid-level leaders participating in training on nuclear project management, regulatory readiness, nuclear safety, advanced and small modular reactors, and engagement with Indigenous and local communities. The program draws on Canada’s position as the world’s second largest uranium producer and Saskatchewan’s commitments to nuclear electricity generation. The school builds on the prior NEMS offering for early to mid-career professionals and situates Saskatoon as a training hub for both domestic and global clean energy leadership.
