Commission initiates infringement procedures over Single Market transposition delays
On 24 September 2026, the European Commission announced new infringement procedures against multiple Member States for failing to notify the transposition of key Single Market directives. The action concerns Directives including (EU) 2024/1711 (electricity market design), (EU) 2024/1788 (hydrogen and decarbonised gas), (EU) 2024/1640 (sixth Anti-Money Laundering Directive), (EU) 2026/192 (cobalt in toys), (EU) 2024/1712 (revised Anti-Trafficking Directive), (EU) 2025/2062 (new psychoactive substances), and (EU) 2024/1799 and (EU) 2026/74 (Right to Repair). The Commission is sending letters of formal notice to Member States including Belgium, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden, among others, for missed deadlines ranging from July to September 2026. Each Member State has two months to respond and complete transposition; failure may lead to a reasoned opinion and potential further legal steps.
EU and Philippines reach substantial agreement on Free Trade Agreement
On 21 September 2026, the European Commission and the Philippines announced substantial agreement in negotiations for a bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The deal, confirmed by Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič and Philippine Secretary Cristina Roque, would liberalise over 94% of tariff lines, covering more than 97% of goods exchanged. The agreement includes provisions on government procurement, intellectual property, digital trade, and ambitious sustainability commitments. The FTA is expected to reinforce supply chain resilience and unlock new investment opportunities, particularly in renewable energy. The Commission and negotiating teams are tasked to finalise technical details in the coming months.
Eurobarometer survey highlights strong public support for EU agriculture
On 21 September 2026, the European Commission published Eurobarometer survey results indicating that 95% of Europeans view agriculture and rural areas as important for Europe's future, and 93% consider food supply security crucial. The survey found broad support for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), with 70% believing it benefits all Europeans. Priorities identified by respondents include food security, reasonable food prices, environmental protection, and fair incomes for farmers. Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/2101, published 25 September 2026, imposes definitive anti-dumping duties on imports of high-protein pea protein originating in the People's Republic of China. The duties, ranging from 40.5% to 67.1%, follow a detailed investigation under Regulation (EU) 2016/1036 and cover products under multiple CN codes including 3504 00 90 and 2106 10 20. The measure applies after the Commission established significant dumping margins and injury to the EU industry.
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/2099 establishes interoperable cross-border identification for electronic health data
On 22 September 2026, the Commission adopted Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/2099 setting requirements for interoperable, cross-border identification and authentication of natural persons, health professionals, and healthcare providers for the exchange of personal electronic health data, pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2025/327 (European Health Data Space). Member States must determine healthcare attributes for identification and notify them to the Commission by March 2028.

Definitive countervailing duties imposed on continuous filament glass fibre products from Egypt
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/2107, published 23 September 2026, confirms the imposition of definitive countervailing duties (13.1%) on imports of continuous filament glass fibre products (GFR) originating in Egypt, following an expiry review under Regulation (EU) 2016/1037. The review found continued subsidisation and injury to the EU industry.
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/2088 imposes definitive anti-dumping duties on alkyl phosphonic acids from China
