The Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) is scheduled for 5 May 2026. Ministers are set to discuss new rules to tackle value added tax (VAT) fraud across the EU. The agenda also includes a policy debate on the market integration and supervision package, which forms part of the EU’s saving and investment union.

TRAN Committee adopts position on digital vehicle registration documents

On 8 April 2026, the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) adopted its position on the revision of EU rules for vehicle registration documents (COM(2025)0179, 2025/0096(COD)), with Johan Danielsson (S&D) as rapporteur. The committee supports introducing a digital vehicle registration certificate as the primary format within three years of the new regulation's entry into force, while maintaining the option for a physical document. The text aims to facilitate cross-border exchange of registration data, address fraudulent practices, and enhance administrative efficiency. An electronic vote was held to adopt the draft report and proceed to interinstitutional negotiations.

BUDG Committee reviews draft opinions on Single Market, Customs Programme, and CEF

The Committee on Budgets (BUDG) met on 8 April 2026 to consider several draft opinions related to the EU’s internal market and funding programmes. Danuše Nerudová (PPE) presented the opinion on establishing the Single Market and Customs Programme for 2028-2034 (COM(2025)0590, 2025/0590(COD)), with Adnan Dibrani (S&D) providing input. Janusz Lewandowski (PPE) reviewed the Connecting Europe Facility draft opinion (COM(2025)0547, 2025/0221(COD)), with additional contributions from Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz (PPE) and Oihane Agirregoitia Martínez (Renew). Consideration of the draft opinions will continue, with amendment deadlines set between 14 and 24 April 2026.

AGRI Committee reviews food supply chain proposals and CAP post-2027 discussions

The Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) convened on 8 and 9 April 2026. Members voted on the provisional agreement regarding the strengthening of the position of farmers in the food supply chain (COM(2024)0577, 2024/0319(COD)), with Céline Imart (PPE) as rapporteur. The committee also exchanged views with the European Economic and Social Committee on its opinion concerning the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) post-2027 (NAT/960) and held a workshop on the Multiannual Financial Framework and the CAP for 2028-2034.

ECON holds public hearing on pension funds and insurers in capital markets
