Commission Supports Launch of French National Hub for Social, Intermediate and Sustainable Housing
On 22 September 2026, the European Commission announced support for the launch of a French National Hub dedicated to social, intermediate and sustainable housing. The initiative, unveiled at the annual French HLM Congress, is a joint effort involving the French Ministry for the City and Housing, Caisse des Dépôts, Union sociale pour l'Habitat, European Investment Bank, and Council of Europe Development Bank. The Hub aims to facilitate access to European resources, provide technical support to project promoters, and foster the sharing of expertise among stakeholders. Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen described the Hub as a key implementation of the European Affordable Housing Plan, presented in December 2025. The initiative builds on the 2020 European Alliance for Sustainable and Inclusive Social Housing in France and is positioned to address persistent challenges in the French housing market.
Commission Adopts €505 Million Support Package for Lebanon
On 22 September 2026, Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica announced the adoption of a €505 million financial support package for Lebanon covering 2026 and 2027. The funding is the second tranche of a €1 billion support package first announced by President Ursula von der Leyen in May 2024. The new funds will target basic services, support to vulnerable populations, reforms, economic recovery, security, and the strengthening of civil society. The Commission noted that over €3.5 billion in assistance has been provided to Lebanon since 2011, with the latest measures responding to increased displacement and humanitarian needs following this year's escalation. EU support will be implemented with Lebanese authorities, UN agencies, and international organisations.

General Affairs Council Discusses MFF 2028–2034 and Rule of Law
On 22 September 2026, the General Affairs Council conducted a policy debate on the Multiannual Financial Framework for 2028–2034. Ministers also discussed preparations for the October European Council and reviewed general rule of law developments within the EU and in selected candidate countries.
