FedNor Invests Over $1 Million in Indigenous-Led Clean Energy for Northwestern Ontario

On August 5, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for FedNor, announced a total investment of $1,129,183 to Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek (BNA) to support a district biomass heating system in northwestern Ontario. This system will utilize wood residue from the local sawmill as a renewable fuel, decreasing reliance on diesel generators and supporting a local circular economy. The announcement builds on $459,800 in previously announced funds, with $669,383 in new funding delivered under the FedNor-led Northern Ontario Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative (NOICE). The funding encompasses planning and construction, targeting reduced greenhouse gas emissions and infrastructure advancement for Indigenous communities. NOICE, supported by Indigenous Services Canada, aims to pair federal funding with other government partners to enable further Indigenous-led energy projects. The project represents an example of federal support for infrastructure tailored to local economic and energy priorities.

StatsCan: Industrial Chemicals—Ethylene, Anhydrous Ammonia Production Climbs in 2025

Statistics Canada has reported 2025 production data for key industrial chemicals and synthetic resins. Ethylene production reached 5.7 million tonnes, up 5.6% from 2024, while anhydrous ammonia production hit 4.8 million tonnes, an increase of 1.0%. Urea production fell by 1.4% to 4.0 million tonnes. These figures show shifts in upstream chemical production, relevant to feedstock purchasing, refinery planning, and petrochemical input suppliers across Canada.
