Minister Joly Announces Advanced Manufacturing and International Partnerships

Minister Mélanie Joly returned from visits to Germany and Norway with agreements intended to strengthen Canadian industry, value chains, and investment. At HANNOVER MESSE, she emphasized Canada’s position as a trusted industrial and research partner, meeting with senior government representatives and executives from Siemens, Bayer, and Schneider Electric. Joly announced $23 million from the Strategic Response Fund for Siemens' Global AI Manufacturing Technologies R&D Center for Battery production, part of a $70 million project. She also celebrated $60 million in funding for 14 new projects from the Advanced Manufacturing Cluster (NGen). In Norway, engagements focused on defense, space, research, and supply chain resiliency. Canada and Norway signed a bilateral science roadmap intended to increase data cooperation relating to the Arctic, facilitating access to jointly collected climate and industrial data for both stakeholders and the research community.

Major Federal Investment in Critical Minerals for Battery Manufacturing

New National Nuclear Energy Strategy and Major Federal R&D Commitments

Minister Tim Hodgson, at the Canadian Nuclear Association Conference, committed to developing a comprehensive Nuclear Energy Strategy to be released by year-end. Four pillars will anchor the plan: enabling new nuclear builds, global export leadership, expanded uranium production, and fostering new Canadian fission and fusion innovation. Spring Economic Update: Significant Expansion of Skilled Trades Training

The government announced Team Canada Strong, a $6 billion initiative to recruit, train, and hire 80,000 to 100,000 new Red Seal trades workers over five years.
