Cyber Security Advisory on Frontier AI Risks Issued by Canadian Centre for Cyber Security
On June 24, the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security (Cyber Centre), part of Communications Security Establishment Canada, released an announcement targeting organizations regarding new cyber risks associated with frontier artificial intelligence models. The Centre referenced an international joint statement by the Five Eyes cyber agencies, noting that AI-driven threats are evolving rapidly. According to the Centre’s advisory and National Cyber Threat Assessment 2025–2026, AI models are being used to automate exploitation of software vulnerabilities, accelerate vulnerability discovery, enable phishing and deepfake attacks, and facilitate more sophisticated cyber activity among less skilled threat actors. The Centre observed that AI deployment within organizations introduces additional risks, including accidental exposure of sensitive data and reliance on manipulated outputs. The advisory also pointed to secure-by-design practices and suggested the adoption of incident reporting mechanisms and supply chain security, noting the necessity of timely actions as AI continues to shape the threat landscape.
