Canada to Host 'Playground to Podium' Summit: Details on Federal Sport Policy Direction
On September 11, the Honourable Adam van Koeverden, Secretary of State (Sport), announced that Canada will host the 'Canada Strong through sport: The Playground to Podium Summit' in Ottawa on November 9 and 10, as part of the ongoing Year of Sport initiative. This event will convene sport sector stakeholders to discuss a new federal funding framework, align cross-sector efficiencies, and deepen partnerships with private and philanthropic entities. The summit builds on the federal government's recently announced $1-billion investment in sport infrastructure, athlete support, grassroots participation, and enhanced hosting of international sporting events. The framework rests upon five pillars—build, protect, perform, participate, and host—with a view to modernizing Canada's sport sector and boosting international event hosting. These changes could alter funding flows and partnership opportunities across accommodation, hospitality, event planning, and recreation industries.
