Dream Billiards Sports Bar and Eatery Inc. fined for illegal wood imports

On July 13, Environment and Climate Change Canada announced that Dream Billiards Sports Bar and Eatery Inc. was fined $25,000 after pleading guilty to importing 119 billiard table legs made from rosewood without the required permits. The conviction falls under the Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of International and Interprovincial Trade Act, and the fine will be allocated to the Environmental Damages Fund. The shipment originated from India and was inspected by officials who identified the material as a protected CITES Appendix II species. All items were forfeited to the Crown. Port de Havre-Saint-Pierre receives $910,309 for modernization

On July 16, the Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec announced over $910,000 in joint funding to modernize the Portail Pélagie-Cormier at Port de Havre-Saint-Pierre. The initiative will enhance the port's reception infrastructure, a key facility for cruise passengers, tourists, and local businesses in Minganie, Quebec. Ottawa's non-repayable contribution totals $366,236 through the Quebec Economic Development Program, while Quebec's Société du Plan Nord adds $544,046. Rio Tinto Fer et Titane, MRC de Minganie, Événement Attraction Québec, and other partners contributed to reach a total project cost above $1.6 million. Minister Mélanie Joly and Kateri Champagne Jourdain led the announcement, citing ambitions to attract international cruise lines and expand connections to Anticosti and Gaspésie. The project aims to secure the long-term performance of the region’s primary tourism gateway.

Nine GTA businesses receive federal support to innovate
