Commission greenlights Sweden's €332.8 million final NextGenerationEU payment
On 30 August 2026, the European Commission granted a positive assessment of Sweden's third and final payment request for €332.8 million under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), part of the NextGenerationEU initiative. This approval means Sweden is the second Member State to complete 100% of its funding allocation, amounting to €3.45 billion. The Commission confirmed that Sweden satisfactorily met all six outstanding targets outlined in the Council Implementing Decision, focusing on reforms in clean transition and education. Key projects include support for the 'Industry Leap' initiative, enhancing energy efficiency in housing, and funding extra study places in universities, particularly for shortage occupations. The Commission has submitted this assessment to the Council's Economic and Financial Committee, which now has four weeks to deliver an opinion. Once confirmed, the final tranche will be released following a formal payment decision. The funds mark the completion of all 59 milestones and targets in Sweden's recovery plan, in line with RRF deadlines for implementation by end-August 2026.
