Commission approves €7.9bn NextGenerationEU payment for Poland

On 9 August 2026, the European Commission issued a positive preliminary assessment of Poland's fifth payment request under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), amounting to €7.9 billion. This approval covers fifteen milestones and thirteen targets, focusing on reforms and investments such as digital technologies in schools and satellite data adoption. Measures addressed digital skill development for over 500,000 teachers, with 16,500 schools receiving laptops and tablets. The Space Activities Act was implemented to govern space data use, and amendments to the Energy Law established uniform connection processes for the electricity grid. Urban transport benefitted from the procurement of 88 trams for Wrocław, Poznań, and Kraków, alongside deployment of smart transmission infrastructure. The Economic and Financial Committee now has four weeks to deliver its opinion before disbursement, following the Commission's payment decision. Poland has completed 71.69% of plan milestones and targets; the total funds disbursed thus far under the RRF exceed €42 billion.
