NextGenerationEU: Recovery and Resilience Facility enters final phase
The European Commission marked the final implementation deadline for the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), central to the NextGenerationEU programme, on 30 August 2026. Member States must submit their final payment requests for completed reforms and investments by 30 September 2026, with all Commission payments to be finalised by 31 December 2026. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen noted NextGenerationEU's role in supporting clean energy and digital transitions, referencing the €440 billion already disbursed and a further €133 billion pending by the end of 2026. Sweden and Denmark were highlighted for completing their national recovery plans ahead of schedule. Executive Vice-President Raffaele Fitto and Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis reiterated the programme's impact on economic resilience and convergence. The RRF funded strategic investment in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean technologies, contributing to record-low unemployment levels and greater EU energy independence.

EU-Monaco Joint Committee updates annex for health product regulation
Decision No 1/2026 (CELEX: 32026D1964) of the EU-Monaco Joint Committee, dated 28 July and published 4 September 2026, amends the Annex to their Agreement to incorporate new Union acts on health products. These amendments include updated rules for medical devices and in vitro diagnostic devices, responding to reforms in EU legislation. Joint inspections between Monegasque and French authorities are addressed, ensuring compatibility with current European regulatory practices.
Council Decision on EU position for IHR (2005) implementation committee
Council Decision (EU) 2026/1966 (CELEX: 32026D1966), adopted 27 August 2026 and published 2 September 2026, sets the EU position for the first meeting of the States Parties Committee on the International Health Regulations (2005), following amendments from the World Health Assembly. The decision details the EU stance on committee terms of reference and ensures EU observer participation, referencing Regulation (EU) 2022/2371 for cross-border health threat coordination.
