Canada Finalizes Agreement with US for HIMARS Missile System Acquisition

On June 2, 2026, the Government of Canada announced the conclusion of a government-to-government contract with the United States under the Foreign Military Sales Program for 26 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers, munitions, spare parts, training, and support services. With a total acquisition value estimated at $2.6 billion CAD, the agreement is positioned to modernize the Canadian Army with long-range precision strike capability, including munitions exceeding 300 km in range. Deliveries are planned to begin in 2029. The procurement will facilitate integration of anti-ship missile capabilities to support coastal and Arctic defense. Lockheed Martin will be responsible for broad participation in the Industrial and Technological Benefits Policy, offering supply chain opportunities and research investments to Canadian companies. The procurement process included completion of the US Congressional Notification in Fall 2025.
