Commission Approves €149 Million Swedish State Aid Scheme for Fisheries and Aquaculture
On 27 July 2026, the European Commission approved a €149 million State aid scheme for Swedish companies active in agriculture, fisheries, and aquaculture, addressing increased fuel and fertiliser prices resulting from the Middle East crisis. The scheme, notified by Sweden, will be in operation until 31 December 2026 and provides direct grants, capped at €50,000 per company, covering up to 85% of the additional fuel and fertiliser costs. The State aid measure was assessed under Article 107(3)(c) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU and sections 1 and 2.1 of the Middle East Crisis Temporary State Aid Framework (METSAF) adopted on 29 April 2026. The Commission concluded that the scheme is compatible with the conditions set in the METSAF and aims to provide temporary support to companies in the primary production of fishery and aquaculture products.
