Council announces informal Agriculture and Fisheries ministers’ meeting for May

The Council of the European Union confirmed that an informal meeting of agriculture ministers under the Agriculture and Fisheries Council configuration will take place on 3 May 2026. The agenda has not been published. This meeting follows ongoing discussions on the future of the Common Fisheries Policy and related funding instruments.

EP Committee Work

ITRE and SANT committees publish draft opinions on the European Fund for cohesion, agriculture, rural, fisheries and maritime policy 2028-2034

On 7 April 2026, the Committee on Public Health (SANT) and the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) published draft opinions regarding the proposal for a regulation establishing the European Fund for economic, social and territorial cohesion, agriculture and rural, fisheries and maritime, prosperity and security for 2028-2034 (COM(2025)0565, 2025/0240(COD)). Rapporteurs Victor Negrescu (SANT) and Jana Nagyová (ITRE) addressed the integration of fisheries and maritime sectors into the broader fund architecture. The draft opinions include proposed amendments on flexibility for Member States, regional anchoring of fisheries policy, and measurable indicators for performance monitoring. The regulation amends Regulation (EU) 2023/955 and Regulation (EU, Euratom) 2024/2509 and aims to ensure coherence between fisheries, maritime, and other sectoral objectives under the next multiannual financial framework.
