Parliament Issues Discharge Report on 2024 EU Budget Implementation
On 10 April 2026, the Committee on Budgetary Control adopted its REPORT on discharge in respect of the implementation of the general budget of the European Union for the financial year 2024 (A-10-2026-0085, Rapporteur: Daniel Freund). The report reviews the Commission’s budget management, error rates as assessed by the Court of Auditors, and the state of Union borrowing and spending under major facilities such as the RRF. It examines the reliability of accounts, legality and regularity of expenditure, and sets out recommendations for improved transparency, fraud prevention, and performance reporting. The discharge process draws on multiple opinions from sectoral committees, including on research, cohesion policy, and financial instruments.

ECON Committee Holds Hearing on Pension Funds and Insurers in Capital Markets
On 8 April 2026, the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) held a public hearing in Brussels focusing on the role of pension funds and insurers in EU capital markets. The discussion examined the economic background for increasing institutional investors’ participation in long-term, higher-risk investments, including the impact of the revised Solvency II framework coming into application on 30 January 2027. CONT Committee Reviews EIB Group Financial Activities in Annual Report
