Government of Canada Extends Contract for CC-130J Hercules Fleet Support and Modernization
On May 15, 2026, the Honourable Stephen Fuhr, Secretary of State (Defence Procurement), announced amendments with Lockheed Martin Corporation to maintain and modernize the Royal Canadian Air Force’s CC-130J Hercules fleet. The deal extends in-service support through June 2029 ($462.5 million USD) and initiates RCAF 105 upgrades across the fleet ($684.3 million USD). These upgrades will affect avionics, navigation, and communication systems to ensure continued compliance with international airspace requirements, impacting both mission readiness and supply chain engagement. The in-service amendment supports operations at Lockheed, Cascade Aerospace (Abbotsford), and Standard Aero (Winnipeg), contributing $85 million annually to GDP and maintaining 620 Canadian jobs. The RCAF 105 program further supports 525 jobs and $70 million per year in GDP. Over $9 Million Invested to Advance Six Alberta Defence Technology Projects
PrairiesCan announced over $9.3 million in repayable funding to six Alberta-based small and medium-sized enterprises under the Regional Defence Investment Initiative (RDII). Recipients range from 3-Ci Manufacturing’s military cabling expansion to Canadian UAVs, which will deliver a fully deployable drone-intelligence system, and Microlynx Systems, awarded $2 million to enhance Arctic domain radar infrastructure supporting NORAD operations. Other projects include MRO Electronic Supply’s advanced manufacturing and workforce expansion, Technalogix’s high-frequency monitoring systems for Arctic and waterway surveillance, and VizworX’s Virtual Operations Environment 3D communications platform for mission planning and monitoring. The RDII forms a part of the Government of Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy and is intended to grow the domestic industrial base and reinforce supply chain resilience, accelerating deployment of dual-use and mission-critical technologies.

Minister McGuinty Concludes Defence Partnership Mission in UAE and Qatar

Canadian Coast Guard Commissions CCGS Naalak Nappaaluk, Expanding Science Capabilities
