Canada Advances Clean Electricity with $73 Million REC Contracts
The Government of Canada announced contracts worth over $73 million to support its Greening Government Strategy, aiming for 100% clean electricity in federal buildings. The contracts with HEPSolar and South Head Switch Power will supply Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), contributing to net-zero emissions goals by 2050. The initiative is set to reduce 32,600 tonnes of CO2 annually, akin to removing 9,980 gas-powered vehicles from the road. This move also promotes Indigenous business, with South Head Energy, an Indigenous-owned company, playing a key role.
