DRW Energy Trading Canada ULC Applies for 10-Year Electricity Export Authorization
DRW Energy Trading Canada ULC has submitted an application to the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) on April 11, 2025, seeking authorization to export up to 1,752,000 MWh of combined firm and interruptible energy annually to the United States for a period of ten years. The CER’s Directions on Procedure invite interested parties to file written submissions by May 26, 2025, addressing the impact of the proposed export on provinces other than the source province and confirming whether Canadian buyers have been offered the opportunity to purchase electricity on terms as favorable as those proposed for export. The application and procedural details are publicly available, and the CER will consider all submissions before issuing a permit or recommending further licensing procedures. DRW must respond to any submissions by June 10, 2025. This process will determine conditions for cross-border electricity trading for the coming decade.
