CRTC Details National Expansion of Competitor Access to Fibre-to-the-Home Networks

On April 22, 2025, CRTC Commissioner Claire Anderson addressed the British Columbia Broadband Association, outlining the CRTC’s August 2024 decision expanding competitor access to fibre-to-the-home networks nationwide. The framework, originating from a 2023 government policy direction, aims to increase competition and enable more affordable internet by allowing competitors to sell services using existing fibre deployed before August 2024. New fibre construction is exempt from the access requirement until August 2029. Large telephone companies were required to grant access to competitors by February 2025.
