CRTC Moves to Reduce Roaming Fees for Canadians
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced measures to lower international and domestic roaming fees. Canadian travelers often face high costs due to inflexible daily roaming charges. In response, the CRTC has urged major cellphone companies to develop more affordable roaming plans and report back by November 4, 2024. Additionally, the CRTC is requiring service providers to negotiate new domestic wholesale roaming rates reflecting current market conditions. Should negotiations fail, the CRTC will impose rates through final offer arbitration. This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on consumers and promote competitive pricing within the telecom industry.
