Canada's $50 Million Boost for Critical Minerals

On March 3, 2025, at the PDAC Convention, Minister Jonathan Wilkinson announced a $50 million investment across 32 projects to enhance Canada's critical mineral value chains. This initiative includes $38.5 million in conditional funding for pre-construction activities through the Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund, focusing on Indigenous engagement and environmental reviews. Additionally, $6.4 million is allocated under the Critical Minerals Research, Development, and Demonstration program for innovation in mineral processing technologies. A further $2.5 million from the Indigenous Natural Resource Partnerships program will support increased economic participation of Indigenous communities.

Frontier Lithium Expands with Federal Support

Minister Jonathan Wilkinson announced a collaboration with Frontier Lithium to develop a lithium chemicals conversion facility in Thunder Bay. This project is part of Canada's first integrated lithium development initiative, supported by the Critical Minerals Strategy. The facility aims to bolster Canada's end-to-end battery supply chain for electric vehicles and is expected to support domestic lithium production.
