Canada Invests in Green Manufacturing

On March 5, 2025, the Government of Canada announced over $19 million in investments for nine manufacturing companies in southern Ontario to enhance environmentally-friendly technologies. Minister Ruby Sahota, alongside MPs James Maloney and Francesco Sorbara, highlighted these investments at Hybrid Power Solutions in Etobicoke, Ontario. The funding aims to drive innovation and support the transition toward a greener economy, contributing to Canada’s net-zero targets by 2050. The companies involved include Chemicheck Inc., C.R. Plastic Products, and Hybrid Power Solutions Inc., which will receive over $2 million to advance its fuel-free power generation products.

Canada and Heidelberg Partner on Cement Decarbonization

On March 7, 2025, the Canadian government, represented by Minister François-Philippe Champagne, announced a partnership with Heidelberg Materials to develop North America’s first full-scale carbon capture system in the cement industry. The project in Edmonton, Alberta, is set to receive up to $275 million, with $226 million earmarked for phase two. The initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to one million tonnes annually, equivalent to removing over 300,000 passenger vehicles from the road. The project, supported by the Strategic Innovation Fund, is expected to maintain over 1,900 full-time jobs and bolster Canada's low-carbon cement leadership.
