Federal Industrial Carbon Pricing Backs 38 Clean Tech Projects
On March 21, 2025, Environment and Climate Change Canada announced that nearly $150 million from the Output-Based Pricing System (OBPS) Proceeds Fund will support 38 projects. The funding aims to deploy clean technologies, enhance energy efficiency, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 544,100 tonnes by 2030. This initiative includes replacing oil- and gas-fired boilers with electric ones and improving galvanized steel sheet durability, creating significant supply chain benefits.

Consultations Launched on Steel Product Diversion Measures
The Canadian government has initiated a 30-day consultation to address the impact of U.S. tariffs on steel imports. These measures aim to prevent the diversion of steel products into Canada, which could harm domestic producers and workers amid global overcapacity and low-priced foreign imports. Recent reciprocal tariffs were also imposed by Canada as a countermeasure.
