CSE Updates on AI Cyber Threats to Canada's Democracy
The Communications Security Establishment Canada released its 2025 report on cyber threats to Canada’s democratic process. The report warns of the growing use of AI by foreign adversaries, particularly Russia and China, to spread disinformation and conduct cyber espionage. AI technologies are being used to create deepfake pornography targeting public figures and to enhance social engineering attacks. Despite these challenges, the CSE assesses it is unlikely that these activities will fundamentally undermine Canada's upcoming federal election. The agency continues to work with federal partners to secure democratic processes.
