Canada's New Tariffs on U.S. Auto Imports
On April 8, Canada's Minister of Finance, François-Philippe Champagne, announced the implementation of countermeasures against U.S. auto imports in response to tariffs imposed by the U.S. Twenty-five percent tariffs will apply to non-CUSMA-compliant vehicles and non-Canadian/Mexican content in compliant vehicles from the U.S., effective April 9. A remission framework incentivizing Canadian auto production will also be introduced. Additionally, a special exemption is granted to Campobello Island, New Brunswick.

Election Interference via WeChat
The SITE Task Force detected an information operation on WeChat targeting the 45th General Election, linked to the Chinese Communist Party. The operation aimed to influence Canadian-Chinese communities and targeted Mark Carney and other MPs with coordinated narratives. The account Youli-Youmian was responsible for amplifying these narratives, receiving high engagement.
