Canada Supports U.S. Investigation into Mid-Air Collision

Transport Minister Anita Anand has announced that Canada will assist the United States' National Transportation Safety Board in investigating the mid-air collision involving a U.S. military Black Hawk helicopter and American Airlines flight 5342. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has deployed two investigators as part of the investigation team. Given that the Bombardier CRJ-700 involved is a Canadian-designed aircraft, Canada's involvement is significant. Transport Canada has also appointed an advisor to support the investigation.

Pickering Lands Airport Project Officially Cancelled

Transport Minister Anita Anand announced that the Pickering Lands, originally acquired for a new airport in 1972, will not be used for such purpose. Instead, the lands will be transferred to Parks Canada. This decision follows decades of debate and a halt on the project since 1975. Consultation with Indigenous communities, tenants, and the public will determine future uses of the land.
