NFB’s ‘Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story’ Wins Peabody Award
The feature-length documentary 'Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story,' produced by Banger Films and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), has been recognized with the Peabody Award for Documentary. NFB Launches New Documentaries, Asian Heritage Month Programming, and Mental Health Week Content
The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) has announced the release of two new documentaries in May: 'Saturday' by Jessica Hall, which explores the creative life of a woman with an intellectual disability, and 'Incandescence' by Nova Ami and Velcrow Ripper, focusing on the global impact of wildfires. May also brings Asian Heritage Month programming, including a themed channel with 30 animated films and documentaries centered on Asian Canadian stories, and Mental Health Week blog content featuring curators’ perspectives on animation and mental health. The NFB’s Alanis Obomsawin Theatre in Montreal will host the Hello Film! series with free screenings throughout the month.

StatsCan Releases New Data on Arts Education and Academic Staff
Statistics Canada has published updated indicators through the Pan-Canadian Education Indicators Program, covering educational attainment for ages 25 to 64 and labour market outcomes. Additionally, initial results from the Full-time University and College Academic Staff System for 2024/2025 have been released. These data sets provide current information relevant to arts education and the academic workforce within Canadian postsecondary institutions.

CRA Issues Revocation Notices for Arts and Cultural Charities
The Canada Revenue Agency has issued notices of intention to revoke registration for several charities within the arts and culture sector, including the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and Sciences in Canada, Cowichan Valley Performing Arts Foundation, Shuswap Society for the Arts and Culture, Loose Tea Music Theatre, Estey Art Initiative Inc., and Seventh Stage Theatre Productions.
