Celebrating Five Years of Indigenous-led Child and Family Services Law

On January 3, 2025, Minister of Indigenous Services Patty Hajdu celebrated the five-year anniversary of the Indigenous-led Child and Family Services Law. The legislation, co-developed with Indigenous, provincial, and territorial partners, aims to rectify past injustices by affirming the jurisdiction of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis over child and family services. The Act, supported by the Supreme Court's ruling in February 2024, has led to significant agreements and funding, impacting over 110 communities and enhancing the cultural and familial continuity for hundreds of Indigenous children.
